Class Overview: This class is designed to introduce the host church’s Safety Team team to the concept of Reality Based Training (RBT) and how to employ it routinely to enhance their effectiveness both as individual members as well as the “team” dynamic. This will be accomplished through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises using real world situations that are occuring in churches across the nation. While the focus will be on the host team there will be a limited number of slots available for outside participants. In addition, there will be unlimited spots for observers only.
The Advanced 1 Class is the first is a series of (4) advanced classes and will focus on identifying the team’s weak spots and helping develop a plan to bridge any training gaps. We will cover the 5-step contact / threat assessment, the four man response concept, radio communications in real time under stress, decision making when facing a threat or crisis, basic control and compliance techniques and situational awareness. Having attended the Basic Church Safety Officer Class is not a prerequisite but it does help considerably with the basic concepts that will be employed during this and subsequent advanced classes.
NOTE: Safety is top priority for this and all advanced classes. Because we will be using training weapons in realistic situations you will not be allowed to bring any weapons (of any kind) into the training area. At the beginning of class you will be given the opportunity to secure any weapons in your vehicle but ALL participants and observers will be required to go through metal detection prior to entering the training area. Also, as a hands-on class, some scenarios may require the use of physical force so all participants will be required to sign a liability release form. Wear comfortable casual clothing and if you operate as an armed Safety Officer bring your typical duty gear and cover garments and be geared up just as you would on duty (less any real weapons).
